Taylor Hicks is a singer/songwriter from Birmingham, Alabama who rose to fame in 2006 after winning the fifth season of American Idol. Before capturing the hearts of a national audience on the television talent show, he crafted his sound in the underground music scene for over a decade and released two independent albums, 1997's In Your Time, and 2005's Under the Radar. After winning American Idol, he signed to Arista Records and released self-titled major label debut in 2006, spreading his rock, blues, and R&B-tinged sound to the masses. Hicks dropped his fifth studio album The Distance, in 2009.
