Swing Out Sister is a British pop group that rose to fame during the 1980s for its sophisticated, jazz-infused sound. The band earned widespread attention for its 1986 hit single "Breakout," as well as its subsequent 1987 debut album It's Better to Travel. Painted with brass horns and synthesized arrangements designed to sound like string instruments, the album established the group's signature blend of electropop and smooth jazz. Although its mainstream prominence faded by the end of the 1990s with the emergence of grunge, Swing Out Sister continues to release new albums including 2008' Beautiful Mess, while maintaining a loyal fan base.
