Split Lip Rayfield

Blending the worlds of bluegrass, alt-country and cow punk, the Wichita, Kansas-based group Split Lip Rayfield has pioneered its own unique sound and dictated its own unique approach to songwriting. Originally a quartet that was formed in 1995, the band's guitarist was diagnosed with throat cancer--an aliment that the instrumentalist would eventually succumb to in 2007--which forced Split Lip Rayfield to scale back to a trio. With a characteristic sound that harks back to the glory days of barn dances in Appalachia, the band's music is best enjoyed in a live setting, where the three musicians in the band are able to perfectly showcase their adept instrumental skills.
