About
Southern Illinois University is a public research university based out of Carbondale, Illinois that was founded in 1869 and the Salukis are the athletic teams that compete for the school in the NCAA's Division I. The Saluki moniker comes from the name of the royal dog of Egypt, which ties to the school because Southern Illinois has been called "Little Egypt" for the past 200 years. Though the school plays host to a wide variety of sports teams, it is probably best known for its baseball, basketball and football teams.
