About
Often referred to as simply SCOTS, Southern Culture on the Skids is a rockabilly outfit that emerged out of Chapel Hill, North Carolina in 1983. With neo-psychedelia, surf rock, alternative rock and of course southern rock making up its sound, the band released its eponymous debut album in 1986, but first earned attention in the mid-1990s with its fifth studio effort, Dirt Track Date. Released in 1995, the record held the hit songs "Camel Walk," "White Trash" and "Soul City," which would be featured on the soundtrack of the 1996 film Happy Gilmore. Southern culture on the Skids continues to release music in the 2010s, including its thirteenth studio album The Kudzu Ranch.
