I Am My Own Wife is an account of the life of a German transgender woman named Charlotte von Mahlsdorf. Brought up as a son to a Nazi father, Charlotte von Mahlsdorf never felt at home in her own skin. Beaten and outcast as a kid, she finds herself in the clutches of crime and soon captured for her crimes. This one-woman show by Dough Wright narrates the story of this brave survivor. After premiering as a workshop and later on off-Broadway, the play finally made its way to Broadway in 2004.
