Ralph Stanley was a bluegrass musician from McClure, Virginia who was known for his distinctive singing style and unique banjo playing. Having played since 1946, Stanley initially emerged with his brother Carter as part of the Stanley Brothers group before going on to launch the Clinch Mountain Boys. Having pioneered a sound that has frequently been imitated but never matched, Stanley was regarded as a living legend in the bluegrass community until his death in 2016.
