About
Originally established in 1975, the Springfield Thunderbirds is a professional ice hockey team that plays in the Eastern Conference of the American Hockey League. This minor league team debuted as the Springfield Thunderbirds in the 2016-2017 season after relocating from Portland. It remains an affiliate of the Florida Panthers of the National Hockey League and plays ts home games at the MassMutual Center. Previously known as the Erie Blades (1975-1982), Baltimore Skipjacks (1982-1993), and the Portland Pirates (1993-2016), the team continues to build upon its legacy.
