Pensacola often gets overshadowed by other large cities in Florida like Orlando, Miami, Jacksonville and Fort Lauderdale; Pensacola, too, but that's the state's capitol, so it's different. Even though it's located in the North West of Florida and surrounded by everglades with alligator hunters, frog eaters and various swamp-dependent folk, Pensacola has a surprisingly high level of artistic panache, thanks to institutions like the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra. Founded in 1926 by German-born John Borjes, the organization constantly manage to evolve with the times and play a wide variety of material, including classical works and also more contemporary, modern pieces.
