About
Paul Revere and the Raiders is a rock and roll band that experienced the peak of its fame in the early 1970s. Led by organist Paul Revere, the band started off recording garage rock classics to imitate the British Invasion sound with its own American R&B style and soon developed an act for national television shows during which the band dressed in Revolutionary War soldier uniforms for a comical effect enhanced by dance numbers and a lip-synching lead singer. In an attempt to take on a more serious image after its slapstick performances grew out of fashion, Paul Revere and the Raiders shortened its name to simply The Raiders and released its 1970 album Collage. The album earned the band critical acclaim and spawned the hit "Indian Reservation." As the 1970s progressed vocalist and now creative leader Mark Lindsay embarked on a solo career, the band broke up until its 1979 appearance on Dick Clark. Though the band never saw the same level of success as it did in its early days, The Raiders continue to release music into the 2000s, dropping its 28th album in 2011.
