Pains of Youth is a German-language play by Ferdinand Bruckner. The plot focuses on a group of young medical students who, with great difficulty, try to make it through the motions of life. The characters of the play are seen balancing their careers, social and personal lives all the time battling several demons that haunt them. The play explores themes like adulthood, substance abuse, sex, prostitution and betrayal among others. Pains of Youth has been produced as-is or adapted into a newer, more modern version of itself several times. The most notable adaptations have been those of Katie Mitchell and Martin Crimp.
