About
Our Country's Good is a play written by British playwright Timberlake Wertenbaker, adapted from the novel The Playmaker by Thomas Keneally. The story takes place during the late 1700s when Great Britain began sending convicts along with its Royal Marines to begin building the empire's first penal colony in Australia. Opening up several new perspectives on a period of British history that few ever paid much attention to prior, Our Country's Good went on to take home several awards following its premier at the Royal Albert Hall in 1988, including the Lawrence Olivier Award for that year's best play.
