Hailing from Los Angeles Otep is a heavy metal band that was formed in 2000. Fronted by female vocalist Otep Shamaya, the band commands attention with its live performances, earning a spot at Ozzfest and signing with Capitol Records in 2001 with no demo and only a handful of shows under its belt. The band released its debut album Sevas Tra, in 2002, and has since increased its mainstream appeal with each consecutive record and live performance. Otep released its fifth studio album Hydra, in 2013.
