With impressive rugged beauty in nearly ever corner of the state, ranging from cascading waterfalls, snow covered mountains that are prone to avalanches, unforgiving high desert territory, momentous rivers that carve deep into the earth's crust and dense evergreen forests, Colorado is a state that's difficult to not find artistic inspiration in. Feeling the pull of the Rocky Mountain State, husband wife team Nathaniel Merrill and Louise Sherman moved to Denver after rich histories working for the Metropolian Opera in New York City to found Opera Colorado 1981, though the company didn't hold its first performance till 1983. Over the decades of its existence, Opera Colorado has been a leading force for impressive operatic productions and a cornerstone of high art integrity amid the roughhewn American West.
