Though she calls Canada home, Kathleen Edward's songwriting has more in common with the folk, country and Americana traditions of the United States. The Ottawa native spent her childhood living in various parts of the world, including Korea and Switzerland, eventually returning to Canada and deciding to pursue music full-time after high school. She self-released her debut EP in 1999, and landed an opportunity to perform at the Austin, Texas music showcase, South by Southwest, in 2002. Edward's accessible and thoughtful songs utilize touches of twangy country that are balanced out with melodic rock hooks, meticulously-crafted folk and her own soaring and expressive voice.
