Mike Portnoy is a progressive metal drummer who rose to attention as a founding member of the band Dream Theater. The band was formed in 1984, and as he rose to attention for his sharp technical skills, he also collaborated on numerous projects with bands like Inner Sanctum, Transatlantic, and OSI. Portnoy split from Dream Theater in 2010 and went on to start a series of his own bands, starting with the traditional hard rock group Adrenaline Mob. He also formed the progressive pop band Flying Colors as well as the power trio The Winery Dogs along with Billy Sheehan and Richie Kotzen.
