Michel Legrand was a French composer, conductor and pianist who led a prolific professional life--writing more than 200 film and television scores, releasing several albums and composing varied works that fall into the jazz and avant-garde noise categories. Born to Raymond Legrand, a renowned composer, and Marcelle Der Mikaelian, a member of the Armenian aristocracy, Michel was raised in a privileged environment where music was constantly a part of daily life. Releasing his debut album, I Love Paris, in 1954, Legrand went on to have one an illustrious careers, winning three Oscars, five Grammys and the respect, several times over, of his peers.
