José Mercé's music career began rather traditionally, when he joined his church's choir as a child. His career took a turn when he acted in a few small some films, among which the most important one is "Bodas de Sangre". However, in 1968 Merce's adeptness at combining ambient melody and down-to-earth rock was finally showcased in his debut album, titled Cultura Jonda 14. Bandera de Andalucía.
