About
Founded in 1974 by Lajos Balogh with just a few students, the Metropolitan Youth Symphony of Portland, Oregon, has grown into one of the largest youth orchestra organizations in the United States. Boasting approximately 500 students, twelve conductors, and fourteen ensembles catering to various experience levels, the symphony provides a welcoming environment for young musicians ranging from kindergarten to early college age. With a primary focus on fostering musical growth and performance skills in a supportive setting, the Metropolitan Youth Symphony encourages students to excel while enjoying the journey of making music.
