McGuffey Lane, an American country rock band originating from Athens and Columbus, Ohio, traces its roots back to 1972 when Terry Efaw and Steve Reis began performing as Scotch & Soda. With the addition of songwriter, lead vocalist, and guitarist Bobby E. McNelley, they rebranded themselves as McGuffey Lane, inspired by Reis's Athens home. Garnering local recognition, they released their debut album independently, selling over 40,000 copies and catching the attention of Atco Records. Their subsequent album, "Aqua Dream," produced the single "Start It All Over," which spent three weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 97 in February 1982. Throughout their career, they toured with notable acts like the Charlie Daniels Band, The Judds, and the Allman Brothers Band, solidifying their presence in the country rock scene.
