As with many teams in the AHL, this franchise started in the IHL, joining in 1994 as the Denver Grizzlies. When the league folded in 2001, the team joined the AHL as the Utah Grizzlies and then left once again to Cleveland in 2007. The Monsters are affiliated with the Columbus Blue Jackets and they play at the Quicken Loans Arena.
