Street Scene is an opera that takes play entirely on the front stoop of a New York City brownstone in the early part of the 20th century and examines the daily lives of the people living in the building. With music by Kurt Weill, lyrics by Langston Hughes and a book by Elmer Rice, the opera held its premiere at the Adelphi Theater in New York City in 1947 and has since gone on to receive numerous international revivals.
