He rose to local acclaim in Detroit's comedy house circuit before earning a succession of gigs in Las Vegas and Atlantic city, where he honed his stand-up act and earned a reputation for his bizarre delivery. Downey Jr. appeared on the television talent show America's Got Talent, in 2013, and while he didn't win the competition, he collected a national following in the process.
