After his career as a professional football player was cut short by a car accident, he picked up guitar and began writing songs. Honing in on his own folk-inspired dance pop style, he won the 1968 Benidorm International Song Festival with his tune "La Vida Sigue Igual," before dropping his debut album, Yo Canto, in 1969. Over his decades-long career, he has built an impressive repertoire of dozens of records while also breaking international barriers with albums such as 2011's 1.
