Johnny Gill is a singer/songwriter who might best be known as a member of the popular R&B group New Edition. With a style that blends together elements of soul and new jack swing, Gill emerged from the Washington, DC hip-hop scene in the 1980s. Gill released his self-titled debut album in 1983, and after joining New Edition in 1987, he would go on to achieved considerable success with the group.
