Originally the side project of Grateful Dead front man Jerry Garcia, the Jerry Garcia Band is a group from San Francisco that was founded in 1975. Starting with its 1978 debut album, Cats Under the Stars, the band has offered a blues, folk, country and jazz-inspired brand of rock music. After Garcia's death in 1995, the band's longest running member Melvin Seals took over the responsibility of lead vocalist as the Jerry Garcia Band continued to perform and release records, such as the 2013 double LP Garcia Live, in memory of its iconic founder.
