Stratovarius is a power metal band from Finland. The band name is a combination of violin builder, Antonio Stardivari, and the guitar model, "Stratocaster." The name perfectly depicts the band's musical fusion of classical and metal music. Tuomo Lassila, John Vihervä and Staffan Strahlman formed the band in 1984. Black Sabbath strongly influenced its early music. However, over the years, the band found its own sound by emphasizing melodies and the classical aspects of its inspirations. Now, the band's trademark sound features high vocals and Baroque elements.
