Once a part of the Appalachian League, Burlington Royals was no stranger to the level of competition of the MiLB. A Rookie affiliate of the Kansas City Royals, this was one team that could not be ignored. One of darlings of Burlington, North Carolina, an empty seat at its home - Burlington Athletic Stadium is a rare sight. However a change in the league's operation led to its dissolution in 2020 with six division titles and two league titles to its credit.
