Originally from Iceland, Emiliana Torrini started singing at a young age--entering vocal competitions and singing in local choirs. Wanting to break out and become part of a larger music scene, Torrini moved to England in the late 1990s to pursue her musical endeavors. While in England Torrini's alternative pop songs caught on with a wide audience and led her to commercial success.
