Girlyman is an American folk group from New York City that is now based out of Atlanta. Full of rich three-part vocal harmonies, twee arrangements and stripped-down but effective instrumentation, the band formed in 2001, with members deciding on the Girlyman moniker to reflect their desire to not take themselves too seriously. Mandolins, banjos and acoustic guitars make up a large chunk of the band's sparse setup, as vocal work rightfully takes center stage. Girlyman's unique take on delicately crafted folk pop should help it build on its under-the-radar status sooner than later.
