Illinois Fighting Illini

The Fighting Illini are the sports teams that compete in the NCAA Division I for the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Named after the Illini--short for the Illinois Confederation, a group of twelve Native American tribes in the upper Mississippi River valley--the teams have done much to raise the standing and respectability of Urbana-Champaign.
