Doc Watson was a bluegrass guitarist who was born in 1923 and raised in the North Carolina hill country. After a severe eye infection at the age of one, Watson became blind. But the loss of his vision did not inhibit him from learning the true value of hard work. After becoming infatuated with the guitar, Watson was able to master the instrument and implement Appalachian cultural characteristics into his playing. Over the decades, Watson built a reputation as a guitarist who was willing to collaborate with new musicians to diversify his sound and bolster the careers of others.
