Denise Perrier, a renowned blues and jazz vocalist, had a remarkable career that took her across the globe. After catching the attention of Louis Armstrong at a benefit concert in San Francisco in 1959, Perrier joined him for a six-week run in Las Vegas. She went on to become a headliner, performing in countries like Australia, Japan, Latin America, Europe, and Cuba, where she was hailed as the next Billie Holiday. Perrier released two studio albums in the United States and had a great desire to record a third, which she accomplished in 2021 despite her failing health. With saxophonist Howard Wiley as her producer, she recorded the album while battling heart and kidney failure. Sadly, Perrier passed away in December 2021 at the age of 82. Her soulful and honest singing style, impeccable phrasing, and ability to convey the story of a song to her audience will be remembered as part of her remarkable musical legacy.
