Dan Hicks was a San Francisco-based singer/songwriter who was known for blending a myriad of genres together to create a cohesive style of music, oftentimes with a satirical twist. Forming the Hot Licks in San Francisco in 1968, Hicks managed to rise to a respectable level of notoriety in the Bay Area, despite never surmounting any sort of well known national fame. Having maintained a rarely vacated role in San Francisco's music scene, Hicks became one of the more recognizable figures of the Bay Area music scene.
