About
The Dakota Valley Symphony is a non-profit and volunteer community arts organization and has been the regional orchestra in Dakota County since 1986. It began as a small chamber orchestra and steadily grew, adding a mixed chorus in 1992 and a Summer Pops orchestra and chorus in 1995. The orchestra's main concert hall is the Burnsville Performing Arts Center, though it also holds performances in parks, schools, community centers and other public places around the area to promote a wide range of symphonic music. The volunteer aspect of the orchestra presents excellent opportunities for talented musicians to gain the experience of playing with an orchestra as well as for aspiring composers to premiere their work. Composed of a 60 member orchestra, 40 choir singers and a 90 person Summer Pops orchestra and chorus, the Dakota Valley Symphony is led by music director and founder Stephen J. Ramsey.
