The Woodentops

The Woodentops is a British rock band that came to be in the early 1980s. Its original lineup consisted of Rolo McGinty, Simon Mawby, Frank DeFreitas, Alice Thompson and Benny Staples. Its debut single "Plenty," released via Food Records, received positive reviews and helped the band secure a deal with the record label Rough Trade. All through 1985, The Woodentops released a series of singles that helped it establish a fan-following before the release of its debut album Giant, which came out in 1986. As the band's sound began to lean towards other genres such as electronic music, the members began experimenting with different instruments. Around this time, the band also went through a number of changes in its lineup; however, it continued with its live performances. Over the years The Woodentops has released numerous other albums including Wooden Foot Cops on the Highway and Why Why Why (Remixes). Some of its most popular songs are "Good Thing," "Give it Time," "Get it On," "Love Train," "So Good Today" and "Maybe It Won't Last."
