About
Founded in 1962 under its original director Dame Peggy van Praagh, the Australian Ballet is the largest classical ballet company in Australia. Based in Melbourne the company tours all major Australian cities and occasionally embarks on international tours, performing approximately 200 times a year and claiming the title of the world's busiest ballet company. Its repertoire includes a classic version of Don Quixote as well as an adaptation of the opera The Merry Widow, made especially for the Australian Ballet by Sir Robert Helpmann and choreographed by Ronald Hynd.
