Anna Vissi is a highly acclaimed Greek Cypriot singer and songwriter who has left an indelible mark on the music industry. With a career spanning several decades, she has established herself as one of the most successful and influential artists in Greece and Cyprus. Vissi's musical journey began with her studies at conservatories and local performances before she ventured into the professional scene in Athens. Her talent quickly caught the attention of industry professionals, leading to a signing with Minos and collaborations with other artists. Concurrently, she pursued her education at the University of Athens, showcasing her dedication to both music and academics. In 1977, Vissi gained widespread recognition by winning the Thessaloniki Song Festival with her song "As Kanoume Apopse Mian Arhi" and subsequently releasing her debut album. It was during the 1980s that she formed a remarkable partnership with songwriter Nikos Karvelas, resulting in numerous chart-topping hits and a significant impact on Greek music history. Together, they founded the CarVi label, which brought about legal issues with EMI Greece before transitioning to CBS Records Greece, later known as Sony Music Greece. Throughout her illustrious career, Vissi has released over two dozen albums, many of which have achieved gold and higher certifications. Her music defies genre boundaries as she fearlessly blends Western pop and dance elements with traditional Greek laïko and entehno styles. This innovative approach solidified her position as a leading figure in the laïko-pop hybrid genre, garnering immense commercial success.
