Music runs through Brazilian vocalist Maria Rita's veins. Born to pianist father, Cesar Camargo Mariano, and singing legend mother, Elis Regina, Rita grew up thinking in terms of sharp keys and treble clef stanzas. She released her first self-titled album at the age of 24, and with the help of her world-famous mother, the opus quickly became an international phenomenon. While Rita credits her mother, she made a stark turn to develop her original style. By drawing inspiration from Ella Fitzgerald's style, Rita's jazzy, folksy sound holds just enough traces of pop to keep her songs sanguine.
