About
Gaining fame as the front man for 1970s punk band Tubeway Army, Gary Numan was signed to a major label, but failed to find commercial success on the UK charts. It was his solo career that produced the greatest amount of success and awarded him the title of one of the pioneers of electronic music. In the early 1980s, Numan's knack for taking industrial sounding synthesizer hooks and interjecting them into pop style songs marked the Englsish musician as a daring and creative artist. Though he might be best remembered for his catchy synth pop, Numan has grown as an artist and has progressed towards a heavier, less pop intensive, sound.
