Starting his successful alternative hip-hop career in high school, Ben Haggerty, whose stage name is Macklemore, quickly became one of Seattle's most prominent underground artists. While his releases have been sporadic, due to issues with substance abuse, Macklemore has since embarked on a life of sobriety and has been more prolific than ever, working with Ryan Lewis as part of their eponymous duo and releasing solo work to tremendous acclaim. With highly political messages embedded in every track, Macklemore continues to impress audiences both with his style of rap and social consciousness.
