Unavantaluna is a Sicilian ensemble that masterfully blends traditional island folk with contemporary flair. Formed in Rome in 2004 by musicians from eastern Sicily, their music revives ancient ballads, tarantellas, and maritime songs, infusing them with modern arrangements. Their 2013 album, “Isula Ranni,” showcases this fusion, earning them the prestigious Premio Andrea Parodi for world music. Instruments like the ciaramedda, friscaletto, and lauto cretese, combined with heartfelt vocals, create a sound that’s both authentic and innovative. Unavantaluna’s dedication to preserving and reimagining Sicilian musical heritage makes them an important Italian ensemble.
