After Treasure Island (L’Île au trésor), four years ago, La Mesnie H. makes another foray into kids’ land. It longed for a new adaptation of an English literature key novel : Oliver Twist, by Charles Dickens.Starved and battered in charitable hospice, the orphan Twist decides to run away and reach the big city. Spotted by a young bandit, he is forced to join a bunch of thieving children. Then follows a hallucinated wandering through the low depths of London where, after thousands twists and turns, he finds his family and finally enjoys the sweet warmth of a loving home.Here’s the story. About the characters, the author gives life to hallucinating figures : Fagin, the kidnapper who manipulates and hoards the thefts ; Artful Dodger : king of the thieving children ;  the bandit, Bill Sykes, with his battered dog ; Nancy, the great-hearted prostitute ; Mr Bumble, a beadle of the parish nearby, who whips helpless kids… all the ingredients are here to turn Oliver Twist into a great melodrama. A masterpiece which, for two hundred years, makes children shiver and wonder.
