Edward James Hamell is a singer/songwriter and musician who creates a loud, intelligent brand of folk-infused punk rock under the moniker Hamell on Trial. Originally from New York City, he got his start playing in a number of bands before embarking on a solo career and moving to Austin, Texas. He released his debut album as Hamell on Trial, titled Conviction, in 1989, and quickly developed the quick-packed, politically-charged style that colors his extensive catalog of records. After releasing a few albums on his own imprint, Such-A-Punch Media, Hamell on Trial signed a contract with Righteous Babe Records, the label of his long-time friend and touring partner, Ani Difranco.
