The Blue Aeroplanes is a post punk band that emerged out of Bristol in 1981. Formed by former members of the Art Objects and The Exploding Seagulls, the band took its time on the club circuit before honing an alternative, art rock style on its 1984 debut album, Bop Art. The album, originally released on the band's own imprint Party Records, captured the attention of Abstract records in the UK and Fire records in the US. Developing its spoken word-like vocal style and guitar-driven rock, the band earned a devoted following in its home country as well as abroad. With a decades-long career, The Blue Aeroplanes are true post-punk veterans who continue to release new music, such as its 2017 LP Welcome, Stranger!
