It's a day to end all days and Ben Butley's life is falling apart. The disgruntled alcoholic, T.S. Eliot scholar and English professor has lost his wife, best friend and dignity in the course of a few hours. Written by Simon Gray, the dark comedy follows Butley as he bullies everyone around him to ensure that he is not the only one having the world's worst 24 hours. The play debuted and garnered the Evening Standard Award for Best Play in 1971 and has since seen respected renditions on Broadway and throughout England.
