The Sisters of Mercy is a gothic rock band from Leeds, England that was founded in 1977. Though the group was an underground sensation for its formative years, it managed to break into mainstream acceptance with its 1987 sophomore album, Floodland. Though lead singer/songwriter is the sole remaining member of the group since it was founded, The Sisters of Mercy has managed to maintain its characteristic sound that blends dark themes and harrowing instrumentals with pop friendly sensibilities.
