Richmond Fontaine

Though the Portland, Oregon-based alt-country group Richmond Fontaine hasn't achieved much cultural popularity in its home-country, the band has managed to latch on to a fairly substantial listening base in the UK. Formed in 1994, the quartet started touring around the Pacific Northwest to support its first three albums, but did not find many fans of its music. Although, outside of the States, in England, the group's doleful tunes managed to strike a chord with a good amount of listeners; Richmond Fontaine even managed to sign a record contract with a British label Decor Records in 2003. The band continues to maintain a steady level of popularity in England, despite having little sway over American audiences.
