Sylvie Guillem

Once considered the best ballerina in Paris, Sylvie Guillem is a renowned dancer and choreographer based in London. Guillem became the Paris Opera Ballet's youngest étoile, or top-ranked female dancer, in 1984 and maintained the position until 1989. After earning the title role in the Royal Ballet's 1988 production of Giselle, she relocated from Paris to London and became a principal guest dancer for the Royal Ballet. In addition to her work as a dancer, she has also choreographed her own version of Giselle for the Finnish National Ballet in 1998. In 2001, Guillem reworked the ballet at the iconic La Scala theater in Milan. Beginning in 2006 she switched her focus to contemporary dance and currently works as an Associate Artist of the London's Sadler's Wells Theatre.
