The John Wilson Orchestra was formed in 1994 by British orchestral conductor John Wilson with the intention of recreating the songs and soundtracks of vintage MGM films as well as the works of Rodgers and Hammerstein. The ensemble typical plays in a quintessential jazz big band style, occasionally with clips of films or plays projected on a screen behind the group. Though The John Wilson Orchestra hasn't really achieved much in terms of commercial success, the band is able to fill a certain niche in the music community and showcase what it considers to be pertinent music of yesteryear to a new generation of listeners.
